I took a small car show here in Melvin, Iowa. It was organized by the local Mayor by the name of Nicholas Liou. The Mayor is a motorhead from way back, having a small part in the film “The Wager”. A love of cars was grown over the years.

I entered my 1969 Dodge in the cruise with the intention of getting a trophy. I spent 2 hours getting the Dodge. I had done my car history search on the Dodge by going over to VIN search site for a check at the accuracy of the car. Because of the detailed data there I found that my Dodge was exceedingly rare!

My car won best of class! | was in total shock that my little old Dodge was the star of the show. Next year I might enter it in a state-wide show.

The Ford Taurus SHO is a huge car. SHO aficionados are often caught commenting on its size. Not much smaller than a light SUV, the SHO maintains the look and feel of a sport sedan in spite of its great size. The stylish interior and muscular exterior are much different than the standard Ford Taurus, a sensible machine made for families.

Exterior Design and Cabin Features

The SHO feature HID headlamps surrounded by lamp bezels finished in nickel, which distinguish it from the standard Taurus. Handling and Performance

The SHO has an all-electric power assist in the steering mechanism, and drivers will instantly notice the difference as the car adjusts well to steering movements. The car has a European feel with its large anti-roll bars and stiffer springs, which makes cornering flat while still safe. It can come out of a turn comfortably and under control with the full-time all-wheel drive, which is a standard option in the SHO.

The car’s twin-turbo Ecoboost V-6 performs like a V-8. The engine does not make obvious all it power until you really push it hard. At 5500 rpm it gives 365 bhp when asked. It has a peak torque of 350 lb.-ft. This creates a powerful acceleration from 0 to 60 in just 5.2 seconds. used cars for sale. However, it has a top speed of just 133 mph, which is 10 mph lower than the first SHO allowed. There is no option of a traditional manual transmission. However the paddle shift should make most drivers happy.

In spite of the engine’s power, it is pretty quiet. It also creates little vibration, even when running at top speeds. Ford is touting the engine as a fuel-efficient option for those interested in a sports sedan, but the proof is not quite there. EPA mileage is 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway due to the engine’s power. This is not terrible, but it is not great fuel economy either.

It’s easy to find discounted car bargains at car auctions.  Anything from older, junk fixer uppers to great newer cars even to expensive luxury models can be found. Many people purchase cars this way from car auctions either for themselves or to sell at a profit. But unless you keep some things in mind the auction can turn into a nightmare.

Some of what can go wrong includes buying a bad car. The car won at auction might turn out to be a lemon. Cars sold at such car auctions are generally sold according to used car laws which tend to make it an as is sale. Remember the old Sesame Street skit in which a man looks over a car with “as is” in the window. He makes a cursory look at the car, but every question is met with “the car is as is” from the salesman. Reputable car auctions give buyers ample opportunities to check out the cars before bidding or purchase.  Don’t make a purchase or even a bid at any auction that won’t accommodate that practice.  Spend time at the facility before the auction begins.  Look around and test drive the cars of interest.  If you don’t know anything about cars, bring someone who does.  If that isn’t possible, at least drive the car for an inspection during the test drive.  Decent inspections take only a few minutes to check the important elements of the car including the motor, belts, brakes, and the like.  Check other elements for damage.  This includes the body, upholstery, and bumpers.

Another problem is inherent in auctions. People assume that the car auction price will be a great deal, but often it ends up being more expensive than purchasing the item through a normal sales process. It’s no different at car auctions. The bidding can easily escalate to well over the car’s value. Add the fees often associated with the auction and it means great care must be taken to know the real value of a car. Be armed with Kelly Blue Book values as well as real sales examples of similar models and years. With Internet enabled phones and the like it’s now easy to look up this information while on site. Don’t pay more than the car is worth, even if it’s a coveted antique.

It’s not hard to find bargains at auctions.  But come armed with information and expertise.  If a deal appears too good to be true, it is, even at car auctions.

I can’t believe we have to put our baby away for the winter.
Francis and I have relied on our 1972 BMW now for just about 5 years. For that length of time we’ve been content with the car. Our cottage is in southern Michigan, near Bad Axe, city, and we love driving the car during the warmer months. My opinion is I’d say it’s an excellent toy for the money.

During the time we’ve owned the BMW we’ve been all over the country. We drove to visit my aunt in Kansas many times over the year. The BMW does poorly on gas and has not given us alot issues in terms of repair.

The BMW is in excellent condition, having been restored in the last two years. The previous owners seem to have taken excellent care of the car over the past 20 years. Our previous car, a Toyota, had plenty of breakdowns and we weren’t depressed to see it go.

The worth of the car has gone up a lot over the past few years to our surprise. It’s hard to believe we paid $14,000 for the car back in 1999. Now it’s worth at least $60,000! We’ve been offered this much several times this year. My girlfriend is very excited!

Toyota’s Scion brand has been a runaway hit for the Japanese automaker ever since being launched in 2003. Designed to appeal to Generation “Y” buyers, the automobiles are preferred, edgy - some people would say ugly - and have given Toyota an important toehold with young buyers. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are making ready to respond to Scion, but in other ways. This deal is amazing as Volkswagen and Mercedes [a DaimlerChrysler division, as is Dodge] compete fiercely, particularly in Europe. VW has a plant in Mexico that likely will produce the Wasp as the company has excess capacity and the price tag advantage that no Yankee manufacturing plant can offer. For its part, VW gets to sell rebadged versions of the Dodge Caravan minivan.

If based on the Polo, the Hornet is anticipated to use the Polo’s 1.6L engine and be paired with a VW transmission. Beyond that, look for the vehicle to be closer in appearance to the Scion xA design, sport a five door hatchback design, and seat five passengers. Now , the xA sells for just over $13,000, so expect the Dodge to challenge at or below the Scion price.

The Ford Bronco

Don’t expect Ford to sit back and watch from the sidelines as the market trends toward more Scion-like autos. In 2004 a concept Ford Bronco, taking styling cues from the 1966 Bronco wagon, made its appearance at car shows. Now, Ford appears ready to go ahead with the Bronco which will also be built in Mexico.

Indeed, Ford is hoping that a budget Bronco will sell for less than $10,000 as it battles inexpensive imports predicted from China as well as other Generation “Y” vehicles on the market.

Yes, the vehicle wars never end and more battles are sure to ensue. Both Nissan with its Versa and a little Toyota by the name of Yaris will soon be released and competing on the market before the Hornet and Bronco arrive in 2008 as 2009 models.
