True Story: My 1961 Buick in a Car Show and Freaking Won

by admin on October 31, 2009

My wife and I entered a church-sponsored car cruise here in Decorah, Iowa. It was organized by the local Councilperson by the name of Nick Fessler. The Councilperson is a movie fan from way back, having a small part in the film “T’inquiète pas, ça se soigne”. A love of cars was developed over the years.

I entered my 1961 Buick in the show ‘n shine with the intention of getting a trophy. I spent four hours getting the Buick. I had done my research on the Buick by going over to VIN decoder for a check at the accuracy of the car. Because of the detailed data there I found that my Buick was a collector car!

I ended up taking home a first place trophy! | was completely shocked that my little old Buick drew so much attention. Next year I’ll start preparing earlier.

Please Stop Making Fast Cars

by plrpro on October 29, 2009

As cars increase in technology so does the speed of each and every vehicle, but why does this happen? I mean there are so many laws around that bound this character of driving so why do manufacturers still persist to make cars that go quick. Let us have a quick look.

Government Cash

What a better way to acquire money from the population by fining them for driving too degraded on places like the superhighway. The government in every land make billions of pounds every single year by fining people for breaking the speeding boundary, would it not be easier to alternatively limit these cars so they cannot go at high speeds, this would also help save lives.

The Sale

The vehicle manufacturers realise that they need to appeal to a busy population. A huge volume of drivers, especially the male love to drive at high speeds. They also love to have fast acceleration speeds as well. So the manufacturers need to cater for these people too. Can you imagine if the Ferrari reduced their speed of their car? I mean the company would probably end up going out of business the very next day.

To sum up I believe that creating cars faster then they are allowed to go is a silly idea, its a bit like saying no smoking allowed in a building except for one. Would it literally not be more effective limiting these cars to a certain speed level and having authority figures such as Police cars be able to exceed it. This would not only indicate an end to high speed car chases, but it would also help save hundreds, if not thousands of lives every single year.

This will never occur though as the globe is more interested with making money, rather than caring for society.

Used Cars Still In Demand Despite Price Rises

by plrpro on October 29, 2009

We are constantly hearing news reports of how the recession is hitting the motoring industry badly. Every week there is a new story of how the motoring industry is suffering because people simply aren’t choosing to buy a new BMW. However, there are sectors of the motoring industry that are doing well, but we never hear about them.

The used car marketing is one of the only sectors of the motoring industry that is doing well. Prices of used cars have been going against the flow of the recession, they have been rising. This may not sound very positive for the customer because you will have to pay more for used cars, however, if you choose to trade in your old car, you will get alot more money for it than previously.

The main reason why the second hand car market is becoming so busy is that many people are trying to save their cash, while still having a car. In an attempt to save as much as possible, they are deciding to buy a second hand car rather a fresh, new one. One particular thing that has happened recently and has definately not had a positive effect on the new car market is that prices have actually risen. You’d think that would be the last thing car manufacturers would want to do, however, because the current exchange rates are so poor, manufacturers are forced to raise prices.

As a result of more people opting for used cars, the demand for these second hand cars has seen a dramatic rise. As the demand continues to rise and the number of cars being scrapped due to the scrappage scheme, it’s becoming ever more difficult to get your perfect used car. Now because used car dealers can’t keep up with the demand for used cars, they have raised their offer for buying your old car, making this deal sound better for the standard car owner.

The only downside is that despite they are getting more for their old cars, they are having to pay more when it comes to buying a diffrent second hand car. So to be honest, you are not making any extra money for your old car, but most people would rather buy a used car rather than buy a Toyota straight off the production line.

It looks like the few people that will lose out because of this are the customers that don’t part exchange an old car.

Learn The Particulars On Portable And Propane Generators

by plrpro on October 29, 2009

There are some individuals who buy portable generators as a back up generator for their camping excursions and households.

An excellent but costly portable generator is the Honda EU1000i Portable Generator. It uses an inverter technology that is fuel efficient, very quiet and has a continuous clean voltage that can be used for home theater equipment and sensitive computers.

Using 4,000 watts and 110 pounds, the portable Blue Max generator uses an affordable OHV engine, and produces little noise as a backup for your home. Even so, it has substantial power to run the lights, television or refrigerator if there should ever be a power outage in the house.

While expensive at 00, the Northstar 8000TG is a powerful seller that uses liquid propane or gas, and also has wheels.

An alternative is the Kohler Portable Generator which gets mounted outdoors and has more power (10,000 watts) and costs ,000.

The transportable Briggs & Stratton 5000 generator goes together with a 1450 OHV kit and engine including wheels to switch with. This portable generator is lightweight, easy to operate, and included is a weather protected control panel.

Selecting a generator that is transportable can be hard, and there are also a few models that can denerate around 2,800 to 6,600 watts. By testing the generator 5 yards from your house, you can avoid leaking carbon monoxide. Never run a portable generator in the basement or garage, and keep the gasoline or propane for it in a properly ventiliated zone.

Propane Generators

Some work places and households generally utilize Propane Generators along with natural gas, however the propane is far more accessible and simpler to store. Conversely, gasoline does not have a long shelf life, and has been present in cases of engine failure.

During hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and other natural disasters gasoline is hard to find, and it seems propane is more readily available as a natural gas to keep the lights on for the rescue crews.

An emergency generator can be hindered by gasoline gumming up and sticking in the carburetor. Then again, propane and natural gas save cash and time for the handyman; throughout more frigid weather conditions, the engine will live longer and run more efficiently.

Kits are sold for changing gasoline generators into propane or natural gas. It provides your generator with longer, uninterrupted clean burning fuel that will also extend the life of the engine.

Guardian standby generators are known to be the number one standby propane generators especially since during a power outage they will automatically supply electricity to pre-selected circuits. Many Guardian standby generators are pre-wired and pre-packaged, affordable and easy to install. 7000 watt generators, which feature an automatic transfer switch, come with a warranty that lasts for 2 years.

The good thing about propane is that it does not break down and it can be stored for long lengths of time. One can purchase propane tanks that range from 5 to 1000 gallons.

1973 Was a Good Year For Firebird : Or Cruising Again in My Vintage Auto

by admin on October 29, 2009

Now is the time to find a car you enjoy! Go out and don’t hesitate, there’s a world of good priced Firebirds out there. Buy a Firebird now before the price goes up! You won’t be sorry.

Nothing prepared us for how much fun we’ve had.
Kasey and I have counted on our 1973 Firebird now for just about 10 years. Truth be told we’ve been thrilled with the car. The apartment where we live is in southern Kansas, near Benedict, and we enjoy driving in the car during the hotter months. Overall I’d say it’s an awesome car for the money.

From the day we picked up the Firebird we’ve been driving up a storm. My whole family made a weekend out of visiting my wife’s aunt in New York numerous times with no problems whatsoever. The Firebird does poorly on gas and has not given us many problems in terms of maintenance.

The Firebird is in tip top shape, having been restored in the last two years. The previous owners seem to have taken good care of it over the past several years. Our previous car, a Lincoln, had plenty of breakdowns and we weren’t depressed to get rid of it.

It was important to get classic car insurance on the vehicle. For our hagerty classic car insurance we went with a company called Hagerty. We signed up for the policy completely online, using their excellent web site. We found the company by reviewing the information on antique car insurance. It’s an awesome resource for finding the best offer on collector car insurance. We insured the Firebird for half of what Prudential wanted.

I don’t regret for a minute buying our Firebird. While 1973 was a completely different age for cars, our car helps us recapture those feelings.
